Who is Doctor Marcom?
People often come to me with these two questions:
- Who are you? Who is that Doctor Marcom?
- Why this name? What does Doctor Marcom really mean?
Doctor Marcom: who’s that man?
Doctor Marcom is the man behind this blog. He is a native from France but a citizen of the world. He is an idealist, trying to ‘always look on the bright side of life’, and refusing to consider ambient mediocrity as a fatality. He navigates though life equipped with a strong personal system of human values, essentially relying on communication, knowledge respect and integrity. Over 30-years experience in life, he can speak many technical and spiritual languages, from yoga, martial arts, linguistics, juggling, or music, to technology, marketing, communication and advertising.
In short:
an experienced marketing and communication professional, and a typical consumer in the street in the same time, trying to connect his life and actions with philosophy.
Doctor Marcom: why this name?
In business terminology - or call it gobbledegook if you prefer - marcom means ‘marketing and communications’. It is what they popularly call a portmanteau word. In linguistics, they call it a blend, that is, a word formed by combining both sounds and meanings from two or more words:
MARCOM = MARketing and COMmunication.
A marcom professional is thus an individual working in the marketing and communication fields. This includes advertising and many other specialty domains (public relations, sales promotion, web marketing, customer relationship management… just to name a few). A doctor provides his patients with medical advice, diagnosis and treatment. Doctor Marcom is here to provide you with advice, diagnosis and treatment related to marketing, communication and advertising. Doctor Marcom is a state of mind: it is an approach to marketing that is popularized, alternative and critical.
